Nothing new over here...just boring work over my thesis, which is about Information Security Awareness, but focused on the home user. I have been studying the phenomena of the Internet, how it affects the life of the users and why the hell we don't protect our computer properly!

It goes from downloading the AV signatures to installing a firewall or enabling crypto on the wireless network that allows us to use the web in the comfort of our bedroom.

It is not a technically challenging topic, but it is VERY relevant and indeed would fry the brain of most technologists. This is not a 10 thing (by the way, there are 10 people who understand binary, the ones who do and the ones who don't.. :) ) , but something that should be analyzed through user motivation (or lack of motivation) and how complex the systems are. It is simple to say that most of the people can watch TV, but after 20 years most of us don't know how to program the VCR properly.

Anyway, I'm having fun researching the topic and I intend to conduct a survey to come out next week. Of course my readers will be invited to answer.. Let's see how many "collaborators" I will get.. :)

Apart from that what has been calling my attention is the VARIG problem. For you who don't know, VARIG is one of the biggest airlines in the world and it has been bad administered for a long time. The company is bankrupt and it is not flying regularly anymore. That means that around 200 passengers/day are trying to go back to Brazil from multiple destinations in Europe without success. The consequence is that LOADS of people are stuck in airports (including me who wanted to return in mid-august) and can't get to Brazil.

This is just SAD. 10000 people are going to be fired in the next days and let's hope, for their own sake, that can get better jobs in other airlines.
